I never cared for baseball much
Too long, too slow, too much boring stuff.
I heard some buzz about the Blue Jays
But thought to myself, who cares about baseball anyways.
Then came the World Series
And after 32 years we were back in!
True fans went crazy
Bandwagoners jumped on
Everyone was hyped up
This could be the year we win!
Even though I always cheer for Toronto,
I just couldn’t commit
After all, baseball’s just not my thing.
Game 1, Game 2…didn’t watch the game
Game 3, Game 4…stole a few glances and thought hmm, it’s not so lame
By Game 5 and 6, I started keeping track of the score
But come Game 7 – I was locked in, a last minute bandwagoner for sure!
For eleven innings I gasped and screamed,
A lifelong fan, or so it seemed.
Yelling at the TV like I knew the rules,
Cheering on the team like a diehard fool.
Every crack of the bat had me gasping for air
Until that final play that left us all in despair.
For a moment I felt the pain of a lifelong fan
But then it ended and that feeling was gone.
Through heartbreak, loss, and even some tears
The fans stay committed and always sincere.
Because if there’s one thing any Torontonian knows
It’s that that next year is our year, that’s for sure.
Farheen’s Note: Despite the light-heartedness of my poem, a huge CONGRATULATIONS to the Toronto Blue Jays for an amazing season and for coming so far in the World Series. They didn’t get the win this year but they did win the heart of every fan (and bandwagoner fan) for displaying amazing sportsmanship and playing with true passion and heart.

And don’t forget…next year will be our year!!
