In the deep of the night, sleep eludes
Thoughts swirl in my head
Creating a whirlwind of moods.
The minutes pass by, the hours grow long
Before I know it, the birds are awake and singing their song.
Another sleepless night has passed me by
Another night with no shut-eye.
Farheen’s Note: This isn’t the first time I’ve written about sleep. In my previous poem “Eyes Wide Open” I lament about being wide awake all night and only wanting to fall asleep as daylight comes. While my poetry is meant to be lighthearted, lack of sleep is no joke. In fact, according to the Public Health Agency of Canada, 50% of adults have trouble falling or staying asleep and 20% do not find their sleep to be refreshing.
So I’m curious to know, are you one of the 50% of people who sleep horribly like me or are you one of the lucky ones who get a good night sleep and wake up feeling refreshed and ready to tackle the day?
