While most people are hooked on the latest Netflix or Amazon Prime series, my guilty pleasure is binge-watching The Young and the Restless (Y&R). So imagine my excitement when I got the chance to meet the legendary Eric Braeden—Y&R’s Victor Newman aka “The Moustache.”

I’ve been a Y&R fan since somewhere back in the 1980s (yes, I’m showing my age here!). While many of the shows’ characters have come and gone or been recast, Victor Newman remains a fixture -a powerhouse in the heart of Genoa City.

For years, I’ve followed Victor’s journey through countless storylines. There were times he was ruthless, times he was tender, moments of raw power, and of course since it is soap opera land, a few stories that were stretched a bit too far to believe. But through it all, Victor was always in control, driven by his love for his family and his fierce loyalty to Newman Enterprises.

Love him or hate him, Victor Newman is truly iconic to The Young and the Restless. So, when the chance came to see Eric Braeden in person, I jumped at it—alongside my Y&R partner-in-crime Sarah Warsi.

The anticipated day finally came and Eric’s entrance was greeted by a standing applause from the audience. Just like his Y&R character, Eric captured everyone’s attention as he spoke about his childhood, his family, politics, his health and of course, his over four decades on the show.

His talk was followed by a short Q&A and I was so excited when my question asking Eric what his least favourite storyline was. Spoiler alert, it was the 2012 storyline where Victor was married to Sharon.

Eric is truly a captivating speaker but the best part was actually getting to meet and speak with him . I thought I would be tongue-tied but Eric made you feel so comfortable that it was like catching up with an old friend. I found myself having an engaging conversation with him and even got a short history lesson!

Meeting Eric Braeden was such a memorable experience—thank you Eric for sharing your time with us. Now, off to watch my PVR’d episodes of Y&R!
